Internship Preparation

Before you begin searching for an internship there are a few things you need to do to prepare for this opportunity. Use the resources available at the Career Development Center to prepare you for your internship search.

  • Industry Research. Check out What can I do with my major? to explore industries that often employ graduates from your major.
  • Resume & Cover Letter. Be sure to create a professional resume and have it reviewed by a Career Counselor. You do not need an appointment to drop-in and have your resume and cover letter critiqued in our Career Resource Library.
  • Interviewing Preparation. The purpose of a resume to obtain an interview. Interview preparation is key to securing your internship. The Career Development Center offers workshops, and individual appointments to help you prepare.
  • Networking. The majority of positions are obtained through networking. Expand your personal network through the following recommendations:
    • Student Organizations
    • Professional Associations in your field. Ask your faculty what professional associations they belong to and research those in your field in the Career Resource Library.
