On-Campus Interviews (OCI)

What is the difference between a BeachLINK non-OCI job posting and an OCI job posting?

A basic difference is that with an OCI job posting you conduct your interviews at the CSULB Career Development Center rather than at your own site, but there are others. A major one is that an OCI posting has filters in place so that only students who meet your basic screening criteria can apply. Also, email blasts are sent out to eligible students to promote your OCI opportunity generally giving you a large candidate pool of qualified students. BeachLINK takes care of setting up the interview schedule according to your specifications. You choose the type of interview that you want, select the candidates that you want to interview and BeachLINK does the rest. OCI accepts only full-time, entry-level professional positions or internships for this program.

Regular BeachLINK job postings are not filtered so students can apply whether or not they meet your exact qualifications .

What types of On-Campus Interviews are available?

Open

The open schedule allows students and alumni meeting your job requirements to self-schedule an interview time and submit their resumes online. Your schedule fills with no more action on your part. You will be able to view the resumes as they are submitted for the interviews. The schedule closes two days prior to your interview date.

Preselect

A pre-select schedule allows you to pre-screen student resumes for your interviews. After reviewing the resumes during a specified selection period and making your pre-selections online, the BeachLINK system automatically notifies the selected students. They are then responsible to self-schedule a timeslot for the interview schedule. There are trigger dates that prompt action on your part, i.e. for resume review and candidate selection. BeachLINK will prompt you by email when a trigger date is nearing. There are preset system dates for these activities but these dates can be easily modified by Career Center at your request.

Room Only

This option allows you to create your own interview schedule of CSULB students outside the online BeachLINK system. This choice is suggested if, at a job fair, information session or other student meeting, you develop a list of students that you would like to interview. Reserve an interview room in advance of the event.

Set up your own time schedule directly with the candidates and send a copy of the schedule to the Career Center the day before your interview. Some employers also use this option to conduct second interviews. We are happy to provide a free interview room based on availability.

Resume Drop

The Resume Drop is approved infrequently because the object of the On-Campus Interview Program is to bring employers and CSULB students together in face-to-face interviews. However, a few employers ask to post an OCI opportunity without an interview date. Students are able to drop resumes and if the response warrants an On-Campus Interview then an on-campus interview date can be requested.

How do the preselect trigger dates work?

The sample below shows trigger dates for an October 21 interview:

Interview Trigger Dates
resume submission start resume submission end employer select start employer select end preselect signup start schedule close
September 21, 2009 October 14, 2009 October 15, 2009 October 16, 2009 October 17, 2009 October 19, 2009

Student: Submit resumes until midnight on the resume submission end date.

Employer: After the resume submission period ends, review the resumes by logging in to BeachLINK. BeachLINK will remind you to make your selections. In BeachLINK, go to Shortcuts and click on "View OCI Applicants". Invite those candidates that you choose to interview by clicking "invited" next to their names and click on "Submit". BeachLINK automatically e-mails students to notify them that they have been invited to your interview.

Student: The following day, invited students begin preselect sign-up. They have 2-3 days, between the Preselect Signup Start date and the Schedule Close date,  to log in to BeachLINK and schedule their interview time.

The schedule closes 2 days prior to the interview date. All trigger dates can be changed by contacting 562.985.8468.
